Meadowlark Dairy in Pleasanton stands out as a local favorite for anyone seeking quality soft serve ice cream with a nostalgic twist. This spot isn’t a sit-down restaurant or typical café—it’s a dessert-focused dairy store and market, with a deep-rooted history in the community that flavors the experience as much as their ice cream flavors do.

Located on Neal Street, Meadowlark draws a steady stream of locals and travelers who often grab their treats on the go, thanks to its drive-thru and take-away only setup. It’s the kind of place people swing by on sunny afternoons or evening strolls, either solo or in groups, looking for that perfect soft serve cone or a playful twist like the Diablo float—a clever combination of slushy and ice cream that’s especially refreshing on warmer days.

Visitors will find a focused menu featuring classic frostys like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and pineapple, along with creative swirls such as the Chocolate Vanilla Swirl or seasonal specialties like the Peppermint Soft Serve. The consistency here leans toward thick and creamy rather than overly sweet, which seems to resonate well with those who appreciate soft serve that feels indulgent but not cloying.

The atmosphere around Meadowlark reflects its local landmark status. Even without indoor seating, there’s a casual buzz created by a line of cars waiting patiently at the drive-thru and groups chatting as they enjoy their cones outside. The quick service keeps the queue moving, which suits families with kids, groups of friends, and solo visitors alike. It’s a spot many Pleasanton residents treat as a reliable and familiar stop—whether for a quick treat after errands or a casual meet-up.

While some might pass on certain flavors, there’s a consensus that the vanilla base is a standout, often serving as a clean backdrop to more adventurous or seasonal swirls. The regular introduction of rotating flavors adds a bit of excitement for repeat visitors, making each trip an opportunity to try something new without steering too far from the classic dairy experience.

Overall, Meadowlark Dairy fits neatly into the Pleasanton neighborhood as a go-to for approachable, no-fuss soft serve. It’s best for those who appreciate quality and tradition in their sweet treats, enjoy the laid-back pace of drive-thru stops, and want a glimpse into one of the area’s beloved, longstanding dessert destinations.

I often come here with my friends, very nice atmosphere. Personally I do not like the strawberry flavor but their vanilla is wonderful. Would also reccomend many of their seasonal flavors.

Whenever I pass by Pleasanton, I can't resist stopping at Meadowlark for their soft serve ice cream! Their unique flavors and rotating seasonal flavors are fun to try. Even the classic vanilla is so good.

Anyone who gives this place a low rating doesn't like soft serve. This was the best I've ever had. Wasn't sugary, it was flavorful and satisfying. I tasted watermelon for the 1st time ever and it was amazing. If I am ever in the area again I will be stopping by again.

One of the best place to try ice cream in the entire Bay Area. This place is drive thru or take away only. It’s always busy like in and out. You see cars lining up across the signal just to get one. We tried the chocolate vanilla swirl, Diablo with orange and vanilla and a diablo with berry and vanilla. Hands down their vanilla and chocolate is the best I’ve tried. It’s fresh, creamy refreshing and moorish. Every bite is soothing on your throat. The doable with orange was also good. It’s basically an orange slush and vanilla ice cream. It flat like Fanta float but better. The least disappointing was berry and vanilla Diabelo. The berry slushy was not that great. Overall I’d highly recommend their swirls and I’ll definitely be back to try more of their flavors.

The ice cream was delicious, cheap and the sizes are huge! I got a small for reference and there was a lot of Ice cream in there. Also the icecream isn't too overly sweet in my opinion and is very satisfying. The wait shorter then I expected too; we waited in a line and an employee came quickly in a few minutes, we waited for another family to go, got our ice cream and went home!

Best ice cream in the Bay Area and it’s not even close! The lines can be long but the workers are super quick and friendly. Also first time that I ate ice cream in a cone with no mess! Perfect portion size and super fresh. Definitely will be coming back!

We made a trip out to Pleasanton to try out this famous soft-serve spot. I totally understand the hype – the soft-serve itself was easily the highest quality I've had in California. Hugely impressed, I see why it's so popular. There's a dedicated lane for this spot that was a bit confusing at first, but eventually it becomes quite clear. Their ordering system is far and away the most efficient ordering system I've experienced. That alone warrants a five star review; we ordered while at the back of the line, and didn't even get to the front of the line before we had our ice cream. Massively impressive!
